What was the point in his slandering the two boaters who lost their lives on Skaneateles Lake July 8 of last summer? Let’s walk with the wild side

Okay, I am a country girl, spending most of my adult life in CNY’s countryside.

Last week journalist Nancy Keefe Rhodes wanted some action pictures of Onondaga Creek. I said, no problem. Even though I started as an urban photo-essayist, I can shoot nature. So, I started where Onondaga Creek crosses Route 20 in LaFayette. The water winds under a bridge and into the valley floor at this point. There wasn’t much going on. Not to worry, I drove up to the city and got off at the Brighton Avenue exit heading West to find the creek. I found it, backtracked, and then followed it to Armory Square. I could find no action, as the entire creek was lined on both sides with chain link fence.

This may not surprise city residents, but I couldn’t believe the creek was fenced in...

Finally, a good habit: - buy local

You’ve heard it all before, but the powerful marketing messages of national companies often drown out the lyrics of buying locally. Choosing a local business, plain and simple, keeps more dollars in the community. In a global economy, being loyal to your community is more important than ever, because there are that many more communities fighting to take your often hard earned dollars.

Yes, if you choose a national chain, you are contributing to their payroll, which pays a lot of local people. Yes, these companies often pay property taxes and for many local services. But a large percentage of your dollar leaves Central New York forever.

For example, buying Dunk ‘n Donuts Coffee versus Freedom of Espresso makes a difference...
