Disney’s High School Musical takes the stage

The Talent Company brings its January 2007 SRO smash hit Disney’s “High School Musical” to the NewTimes Theatre in the Art & Home Center at the New York State Fairgrounds for its final weekend through Sunday, Aug. 3 t. Three of its stars, Tim Quartier, who reprises his role as Troy Bolton, Ana Thornton, reprising her role as Gabriella Montez and Danielle Lovier who will portray Sharpay Evans were multiple award winners at the 2007 and 2008 SALTY and SALT Awards Ceremonies.
The show follows the antics of East High students as they audition for the school musical, compete in a scholastic decathlon and play the championship basketball game. Troy (Tim Quartier), captain of the basketball team and Gabriella (Ana Thornton), the brainy, shy new girl at school surprise themselves and others by trying out for the lead roles in the musical. They face the objections of Sharpay (Danielle Lovier), the thespian queen and president of the drama club and Ryan (Jonathan Basla), her brother and vice-president of the drama club, who covet the roles for themselves, and friends, Chad (Thomas Green), number two on the Wildcats Basketball Team and Taylor (Bianca Grant), president of the scholastic club, who want Troy and Gabriella to stick to what they do best – basketball and academics.
Other characters in the various cliques at East high are Zeke (Roy George), a jock with a secret passion for baking; Martha Cox (Jennifer Pearson), a brainiac with a secret passion for hip hop; Kelsi Neilson (Nina Pelligra), the composer-pianist of the school musical and Jack Scott (Sean McAnaney), the smart-mouthed student P.A. announcer known as the Velvet Fog of East High. Ms. Darbus (Christine Lightcap), the drama teacher and Coach Bolton (Joe Pierce) the basketball coach, preside over the competing school activities.
Other jocks, cheerleaders, thespians, brainiacs and skater dudes are Cassandra Bigness, Cody Chester, Marlee Delia, Devon Face, Marci Fenton, Kate Gullo, Corey Hopkins, Casey Hunter, Kaylee Leroy, Morgan Naum, John O’Reilly, Kaleigh Pfohl, Andrew Pollock, Rachel Robinson, James Russell, Billy Swenson and Mike Winslow.
Talent Company’s production of “High School Musical” is produced and directed by Christine Lightcap. Brenda Neuss is associate producer, Nadine Cole is music director and conductor, and Caira Cramer is choreographer. Costumes are by Jeanette Reyner, set by Stephen Beebe, light design by Cindy Shippers and sound design by Tony Vadala.
This family friendly show plays Thursdays through Sundays, July 3 to Aug. 3; Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. For tickets, call The Talent Company Box-Office at 479-SHOW.
