Bob Newhart’s Golden Globe and Grammy award-winning career has spanned two successful television shows (The Bob Newhart Show airing for six seasons from 1972 to 1978 and Newhart for eight seasons from 1982-1990, both on CBS), 14 feature films including Major Major in Catch-22 and Papa Elf in Elf, sold millions of comedy albums worldwide and still performs to sell-out crowds all over the country. At Loretto’s benefit presentation of An Evening with Bob Newhart, the audience will hear such classic Newhart comedy standards as The Driving Instructor, Sir Walter Raleigh and The Submarine Commander as he performs live on the Syracuse Civic Center’s Crouse-Hinds Concert Theater stage.

In April, the NAB, the National Association of Broadcasters, presented the veteran entertainer with its “Hall of Fame” Award at a gala in Las Vegas, the site of some of Newhart’s biggest stand up triumphs, performed alongside friends such as Frank Sinatra.

Recently, Newhart marked another career milestone, the 35th anniversary of “The Bob Newhart Show,” the iconic TV sitcom that surely made him a household name and set the tone for a generation of TV shows.

The paperback edition of his best seller, “I Shouldn’t Even Be Doing This” (Hyperion Books), is currently in bookstores. Signed to a record contract by Warner Bros. in 1959, a comedy recording of his early stand up act hit a nerve and became a huge best seller in 1960, winning multiple Grammy® awards, including “Album of the Year” and “Best New Artist,” simultaneously sitting atop the number one and two positions on the Billboard charts for many weeks, a record only broken by the hard rock band, Guns ’N Roses.

Originally established in 1926, Loretto is Central New York’s largest leading older adult and long term care provider with more than 2,400 dedicated employees serving over 6,000 residents and participants each year with 22 programs at 19 locations.
