Wise Guys Comedy moves to Traditions

staff reports 08/08/09
Wise Guys Comedy Showroom, which opened first in 1985, and after a 7year
vacation reopened in October 2007 in Franklin Square, is now ready to
announce its grand opening at its new home. On Friday, August 14th, the
first general admission show will take place at 201 South Salina Street
(formerly Traditions of Syracuse) at 8 pm. (Thursday evening’s show will
be by invitation only.)

After months of searching, Wise Guys finally found the right new location.
This new spot is worthy of our guests and our world-famous talent –
beautiful, unique, spacious and located in the heart of downtown Syracuse.
Formerly Traditions of Syracuse at 201 South Salina Street, this historic
building has it all – a grand wooden bar with a special spot for our
slight-of-hand magician, Dan Uzunoff, and our tarot card reader, a beautiful
dining room that will be able to cater special parties before the show, and
of course – the famous Wise Guys Comedy Showroom Stage in the lower level.

For this very special grand opening weekend, Wise Guys has brought in “The
One Man Comedy Tornado”, Paul Venier. Paul is one of their most requested
entertainers – a show not to be missed. Some of his many credits include:
opening for Jay Leno, Jackie Mason, Phyllis Diller, Soupy Sales, Jethro
Tull, Lou Reed and Cheap Trick, performing with Howie Mandell, Don Rickles,
Paul Reiser, Larry Miller, and Rick Overton, and has been performer at some
of the top comedy clubs throughout the country. He was also the Musical
Director and a Comedian/Actor/Writer for Rascal's Comedy Hour with such
guests as Sam Kinison, Eddie Murphy, Rosie O'Donnell, and Rodney
Dangerfield.

Wise Guys also made adjustments to ensure that guests have a truly great experience. The management team all have a strong customer-service background and are committed to providing great entertainment and great service.

David Wheeler and Barbara Braun (2 of the 3 partners that reopened Wise Guys in 2007) have assumed much of the day-to-day operation. (Bruno Schirippa, the 3rd partner to reopen Wise Guys, has moved on to pursue other interests.)

Dave and Barb (brother and sister) started their first business, a lemon-aide stand on the 15th tee box at Westvale Country Club, 35 years ago. Both Dave and Barb got their start in the comedy business at the original Wise Guys in the mid 80s, where Barb was the receptionist and Dave did everything from cleaning to sales and marketing. Over the last 10
years, Barb has been in the food and beverage industry, while Dave has
focused on hospitality – most recently as the Controller for the DoubleTree
Hotel on Carrier Circle.

Groups and parties are all encouraged at Wise Guys. Director of Sales,
Sascha McRae (also with a strong hospitality background), can create
packages to make any occasion special, and of course, fun!

Wise Guys is eager to welcome guests (old and new) to their new home.

Wise Guys is “where grown ups go to play”!
