The Greatest Pet Rescue at Palace Sept. 24

staff reports 08/19/09
Syracuse film premiere of "An America Opera: The Greatest Pet Rescue Ever" at the Palace Theatre in Eastwood on Sept. 24

About the film: In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina's devastation, the United States of America suffered the worst domestic animal crisis in its history.

Tens of thousands of house pets were left to die in neighborhoods all across the region as owners were forced to evacuate without their pets. City officials, rescuers and adopters of animals worked through the devastation only to discover that not everyone was working toward the same goal.

“An American Opera: The Greatest Pet Rescue Ever!" is an extraordinary look at a city in chaos and the volunteers who came from all over the world to help restore order. In addition, there will be partnership with several local Syracuse area animal rescue groups who will be part of the event.

More about this moving documentary film:
Tom McPhee’s startling directorial debut is set against the apocalyptic
landscape of Post-Katrina New Orleans and is a gripping personal journey
of heroism, sacrifice, loss and hope.

“An American Opera: The Greatest Pet Rescue Ever!” has been the official film selection of 24 film festivals on four continents. It won the Gold Remi for Feature Documentary at the 40th Houston Worldfest, the Gold Camera at the U.S. International Film Festival and the Director’s Choice Silver Medal in Documentary at the Park City Film and Music Festival.

“An American Opera’s” soundtrack follows in the great indie tradition of such films as “Garden State,” where music and the movie come alive on screen. Featuring sounds by Three Days Grace, Gene Loves Jezebel, Jami Sieber and Arthur Yoria, this eclectic mix of music talent creates a seamless fusion between the lyrics, music and events on screen.
