Supporting Acclaimed New Album, ALREADY FREE

Following a month-long tour of European festivals and a performance on ABC's Good Morning America, the Derek Trucks Band returns to the road for a second leg of U.S. dates supporting their newest album, Already Free.

The band set a new personal record with their sixth studio release, which debuted at number 19 on Billboard’s Top 200 chart, marking the band’s highest debut to date. With stand out singles, “Down in the Flood,” and “Get What You Deserve,” the album reached number 2 at AAA and number 10 on Rock Radio formats. "Back Where I Started" featuring Susan Tedeschi on vocals hits the airwaves mid-September.

Already Free, has been met with tremendous excitement from the media and DTB’s fan base alike. Downbeat Magazine's 2009 Readers Poll includes a pair of nominations for "Best Blues Artist/Group," and "Best Blues Album." Rolling Stone hailed, "Derek Trucks could very well be the best guitarist of his generation," citing this record as the band’s “most accessible blues-rock set to date.” The Philadelphia Daily News called the album, “Exquisite.” Boston Globe said, “You probably won't hear a better rock/R&B record this year.” And Entertainment Weekly exclaimed, “Trucks' bluesy playing is excellent throughout…”

Fans of all ages now have the opportunit y to play along with The Derek Trucks Band. Released on September 1, the popular video game franchise Guitar Hero 5 features the track “Young Funk,” off the band’s 1998 album Out Of The Madness.

The Derek Trucks Band takes a progressive approach to roots music, blending rock, blues, jazz, and world music into their defining sound. They are known for their amazing live performances, led by Trucks' mesmerizing guitar work, and backed by the impressive individual talents of this band. The Patriot Ledger compared Trucks in concert to “a real life Guitar Hero” and Seattle Post Intelligencer stated he "is one of the best rock guitarists making music today." "The Derek Trucks Band is simply incredible," declared the Orange County Register, and "undoubtedly made countless new fans with a powerful display."

Already Free was self-produced by Trucks and recorded in his Jacksonville, Florida home studio. Nearly a year in the making and brimming with a newfound focus on creating original material, Already Free is the band’s natural evolution as they move forward integrating influences that span a variety of musical genres. Known for their blues roots, the group takes this album well beyond the blues, drawing heavily on the sounds and sentiments of rock & soul.

In recording Already Free, the band, which consists of Derek Trucks on guitar, bassist Todd Smallie, percussionist Count M’Butu, drummer Yonrico Scott, keyboardist Kofi Burbridge and singer Mike Mattison, received helping hands from some famous friends — pals like Doyle Bramhall II, Oteil Burbridge, and Trucks’ wife Susan Tedeschi can all be heard on the album.

Raised in a home filled with music, Trucks (now 30) picked up a guitar at nine and was quickly considered a guitar prodigy. He has gone on to a storybook guitar career playing with some of the greatest musicians of all time including Eric Clapton, Willie Nelson and Buddy Guy, became a full time member of the Allman Brothers Band in 1999 (his uncle, Butch Trucks is a founding member), performing on Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival Emmy-winning DVD, opening a tour for Carlos Santana, and appearing on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, to name a few of the highlights. Already Free reflects all of Trucks’ many influences and experiences, and highlights the quintessential Derek Trucks Band sound of mixing soulful vocals and expert guitar playing on what is poised to be the band’s definitive album.
