The Petit Branch Library will host the third in a series of four Speakers in the Humanities lectures at 2 p.m., Oct. 31. Dr. Milton C. Sernett, Syracuse University Professor Emeritus of African American Studies and History, will present the lecture, “North Star Shining: New York State’s Freedom Trail—An Illustrated Journey Along the Underground Railroad.”
The illustrated talk will place the story of the Underground Railroad in the context of the religious and reform movements of the pre-Civil War period, including endeavors such as the temperance crusade and the women’s rights campaign. The lecture is sponsored by the New York Council for the Humanities, a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
The program is free and open to the general public.
