Everson presents watercolor painting classes

staff reports 10/22/09
Some of the artists featured in the exhibition Turner to Cézanne: Masterpieces from the Davies Collection, National Museum Wales, on display at the Everson Museum of Art through Jan. 3, 2010, are considered masters of watercolor painting. To celebrate and explore this medium, the Everson presents a series of Watercolor Painting classes at e-tags (Everson Teen Art Gallery & Studio) at the Syracuse University Warehouse.

Participants will challenge their imaginations and experiment with a range of watercolor techniques on hot and cold press paper, including the use of salt, wax paper, collage and mono-printing, to paint both abstract and realistic subject matter.

The classes are scheduled for 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Oct. 24, Oct. 31, Nov. 7 and Nov. 14, and are open to adults and teens. The cost is $80 for Everson members and $100 for the general public. The Syracuse University Warehouse is located at 350 West Fayette St.

“These engaging classes are great for anyone from the novice to the expert to have fun while learning new painting techniques,” said Kimberly Griffiths, Everson Associate Curator of Education and Public Programs.

To register, contact Kimberly Griffiths at kgriffiths@everson.org or 474-6064.

Turner’s “The Storm” and Cézanne’s “The Francois Zola Dam,” plus work from Manet, Pissarro, Whistler, Daumier, Corot and more. The Davies Collection is considered one the National Museum of Wales’ most remarkable treasures and one of the great British art collections of the 20th century. The exhibit is on its first tour in the United States and will be on display at the Everson through Jan. 3, 2010, making Syracuse the only city in the Northeast to host it.

Tickets to Turner to Cézanne can be purchased at everson.org or at the Everson box office, and are priced as follows: $10, Everson members; $15, adults; $12, children under 18, college students (with ID), Armed Forces (with ID) and seniors (65+); and $50, family rate (includes two adults and four dependents).
