In a city thatís been invested in ceramics for generations Ė The Everson Museumís pioneering Robineau Collection was world-famous long before Turner to Cezanne hit town, and Syracuse China still graces the White House Ėitís no surprise that ceramics studios abound and local schools keep turning out young potters. Founded in 1947, the Syracuse Ceramic Guild has been another force for the flourishing of the clay arts. Last Thursday night the Guild opened a winter show with a reception at the Delavan Center Gallery, 501 W. Fayette St. On view in the Wild Card section of the gallery is the wide-ranging work of nine Guild members: Carol Adamec, Lory Black, Walt Black, Sue Canizares, Megan Connor, Miyo Hirano, Amy Komar, Sabrina Nedell, and Wes Weiss. The show is up through Saturday, 12/19. The Guild also holds a pottery fair every August. Regular gallery hours are Thursdays and Fridays, noon to 6:00 PM, and Saturdays from 11:00 Ė 4:00. 315.474.3609 or delavanartgallery.com.
