Le Moyne College Presents The Fall of Lucifer and Other Medieval Plays

staff reports 04/03/10
Friday, April 15 and 16, at 6 p.m; and Saturday and Sunday, April 17 and 18, at 1 p.m. in front of the W. Carroll Coyne Center for the Performing Arts (inside the Performing Arts Center if it rains), Le Moyne College's theatreprogram will perform three Medieval plays: The Fall of Lucifer from the Chester Cycle; Meat Pie, Fruit Pie, a French medieval farce; and The Blessed Apple Tree, a Dutch morality play. Free and open to the public. Appropriate (mostly) for all ages. Bring blankets for lawn seating.

The Fall of Lucifer tells the story of God creating the world and nine orders of angels. Two of the angels(Lucifer and Lightbourne) rebel. You know the rest of the story.

Meat Pie, Fruit Pie: A 15th century French farce with no moral lesson of any kind, except "don't get caught." Slapstick comedy with actualslapsticks and real pies in faces. Audience members in the front may get covered with pie, so dress appropriately.

The Blessed Apple Tree: A fun Dutch morality play featuring characters including Lusty Youth, Reckless Living, the Devil and Death. A cheerful God grants the wish of a poor farmer and his wife.

The Fall of Lucifer will also be performed at the University of Toronto on May 22 as a part of a complete staging of the Chester Cycle.

Colleges from across the United States and Canada, including University of Michigan, Purdue University, Loyola and University of Massachusetts, will be performing in the festival. Le Moyne has been producing medieval drama in conjunction with the University of Toronto's Centre for Medieval Studies for 25 years.
