Talent Company presents ‘Lucky Stiff’

06/13/07
The Talent Company is pleased to announce that its summer production will be Lynn Ahrens’ and Stephen Flaherty’s (Once On This Island, My Favorite Year, Ragtime) first full length collaboration, Lucy Stiff. It will play weekends, June 15 through July 8 at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays in the NewTimes Theatre, Art & Home Center on the New York State Fairgrounds.
Lucky Stiff, a zany, offbeat and hilarious musical murder mystery, concerns Harry Witherspoon (Tom Warner) whose dreary existence is turned upside down by being named in his Uncle Tony Hendon’s (Harry Goldberg) will. If he agrees to fulfill the convoluted terms of the will, including taking his dead uncle on his dream vacation to Monte Carlo (a la “Weekend at Bernie’s”), Harry stands to inherit $6 million. If terms are not carried out to the letter of the will, the inheritance reverts to Tony’s favorite charity, the Universal Dog Home of Brooklyn, whose administrator, Annabel Glick (Katheryn Guyette-Graham), keeps a watchful eye on Harry’s every move.
Meanwhile, Rita LaPorta (Christine Lightcap) discovers that her lover, casino manager Tony Hendon, has left his nephew the money they embezzled from Rita’s casino owner husband. To help recover the money, Rita kidnaps her brother Vinnie DeRuzzio (Tom Briggs) and off they go to Monte Carlo.
Added into the Monte Carlo melee are Luigi Gaudi (Thomas Quinn), a sinister looking man who seems to have a keen interest in Harry’s activities, and an assortment of more than 24 characters all portrayed by a quartet of actors (Jodi Bilotti Howe, Suzanne Tiffault, Brian Maxsween and Mark Reeve). Join Harry, the corpse, and all the other zany characters on a vacation of a lifetime.
This exuberant, energetic and impeccably crafted show has book and lyrics by Ahrens and music by Flaherty. Sharee Lemos directs the antics, while Alfonso Annotto, returning after many years in New York City to the Central New York area, provides the music direction. Set design by Joe Pierce, set construction by Steve Beebe, light design by Cindy Shippers, costumes by Jeanette Reyner and wigs by Karen Procopio round out the artistic staff for Lucky Stiff.
Tickets are $25; $22 for seniors and students; $14 for children 12 and younger and may be purchased by calling the Talent Company Box Office at 479-SHOW. Group discounts are available. This show is suitable for families.
