Plowshares Craftsfair and Winter Peace Festival

The 37th annual Plowshares Craftsfair and Winter Peace Festival will be held on Dec. 1 and 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, at Nottingham High School, 3100 East Genesee St., Syracuse. Plowshares is Central New York’s premiere multicultural crafts fair, bringing to life a community marketplace, celebrating a world where people enjoy their work and have control over it.
“At a time when our nation is at war, people coming together in the spirit of peace is particularly timely,” says Rae Kramer, a Plowshares organizer. In addition to some 120 craftspeople from throughout Central New York, Plowshares features a full schedule of entertainment and scrumptious home made food.
Plowshares provides a family-friendly alternative to frantic shopping and mass-produced goods. The crafts are not only high quality but also sensitive to social and environmental concerns. Holiday gift buyers will find crafts ranging from hand-screened and batik clothing, stained glass, pottery, vegetable-based soaps, fabric dolls, jewelry (bone, copper, brass, silver, gemstones, ceramic, glass beads), blown glass, leatherwork, hand-dipped incense, and many other items. The crafts high quality, and items cover a wide range of prices. The entry fee is only $2 for adults, free for those under 16 or over 65.
There will be ongoing performances, by local musicians, dancers, and drummers. In addition, there will be a menu of various foods from snacks to healthy meals available at reasonable prices.
The show raises valuable funds to support the educational and activist work of the Syracuse Peace Council. For further information, contact the Peace Council at 472-5478, e-mail:, on the web at
