Sugar & Spice - A holiday musical mix concert at Jazz Central on Friday

12/19/07
WAER 88.3 will hold an intimate concert, “Sugar & Spice” to celebrate the season at Jazz Central, 441 East Washington St., Syracuse at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 21. The evening offers the folk stylings of Dusty Pascal, the funk/jazz sounds of Jessie Collins and the Interstellar Funkateers, and features the Americana/pop country crossover originals of The Lisa Gentile Band, merging together to create a special, festive holiday blend of performances not to be missed.
Joe Lee, director and general manager of WAER wanted to bring a new sound to the WAER holiday show this year by mixing up musical genres.
“Ms. Gentile brings a great energy to the table and I want to expose our listeners to the new and innovative local music that’s available to our listeners, as well as, the Syracuse community.”
The sweet and sultry country crossover sound of The Lisa Gentile Band is made up of veteran local musicians Joe Beccheria on guitar, Bill Barry on keyboards, Jake Cappozolo on bass, and special guest Lenny Milano on drums. Lisa is a Syracuse native and national recording artist who recently returned to her roots after living in NYC for many years. She has recorded and performed extensively throughout the country and released three CD’s, her latest of which just won a SAMMY Award for Best Country Recording. Lisa also performs actively for many charities throughout Central New York and hosts the popular “Music Mavericks”, a weekly open mic showcase. You can find out more about Lisa at lisagentile.com or myspace.com/lisagsings.
The Interstellar Funkateers add the spice to the mix as bandleader Jesse Collins brings his creations to the stage inspired by his early New York City experiences of sitting in with Blues Traveler, The Spin Doctors, D'Tripp, and Arnie Lawrence's Blues/Fun Co-Elation. The Interstellar Funkateers combine the compositional forms of bebop and modal jazz with the pure groove of funk and dance music. Drummer Darneil Jackson, bassist Kent Fraiser, and guitarist Jeff Houston make up the nucleus of the group, which in its first year of existence has begun to develop a strong musical voice. Dusty Pascal's earthy delivery of his original songs blends folk, and country styles. His debut CD "Home: The Loren Barrigar Sessions" has been extremely successful and has gained a widespread audience. Guitar guru, Loren Barrigar will accompany Pascal in this performance along with Bobby Perry on bass and Danny Welch on harmonica. For more information on Dusty visit myspace/dustinpascale.
