The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940

05/08/08
What do Broadway, World War II, the NYPD, the Navy, the Gestapo and a two-year-old murder case all have in common? Appleseed Productions' show, The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940, that's what!
The creative team responsible for a recent Broadway flop (during which three chorus girls were murdered by the mysterious "Stage Door Slasher") assemble for a backer's audition of their new show at the Westchester estate of a wealthy "angel" (Nora O'Dea). As the producer (Angela Newman), composer (Brian Pringle), lyricist (Hinda Crewell), actors (Wendy Sikorski, Gerrit Vander Werff, Jr., and Bill Ali), and director (Rick Signorelli) prepare their performance, the German maid (Erin Race) prepares for dinner, and a blizzard cuts off any possible retreat, the infamous "Slasher" makes his (or her) reappearance and strikes again and again and bodies start to drop in plain sight, knives spring out of nowhere, and accusing fingers point in all directions. The Sergeant Kelly (Christopher James) is on the case but still confused, however the mystery is solved in the nick of time and the "Slasher" unmasked - but is it who we think it is?
Directed by Appleseed's SALT and TANYS award winning artistic director, Jon Wilson, this comical murder mystery opened on Friday, May 2 on Appleseed's Atonement Stage, 116 West Glen Ave. in Syracuse and runs through Saturday, May 17; Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. There is also a Mother's Day Dinner at 12:30 p.m. before the May 11 performance. Show-only tickets are $15 for adults; $12 students and seniors; Mother's Dinner & Show tickets are $30 for adults; $27 for students and seniors.
