The Closer I Get - John Cadley and The Lost Boys

03/26/08
John Cadley and the Lost Boys have been a working bluegrass group in Central New York since John formed the band in 1999 with Karl Lauber and Paul Wakker. Originally working as a trio, they played local venues and recorded a SAMMY-winning CD of John's original songs entitled Middle of Nowhere, which included Johnís ďTime,Ē which Lou Reid and Carolina recorded and took to number one on the national bluegrass charts. Karl left the band shortly after that recording and was replaced by Mark Allnatt on banjo and Henry Jankiewicz on fiddle. This is the configuration that recorded the bandís second CD, Black Dog, also a SAMMY winner, and is still the present line-up, with the new additions of Ted Williams on mandolin and John Dancks replacing Paul Wakker on bass.
The band will be performing a CD release concert at 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 29 at the Center for the Arts, 728 East Genesee St., Syracuse for Johnís first solo CD of all original songs, The Closer I Get, recorded in Nashville in May 2007 and released in January 2008 on Caity Mae Records. Produced by former Ricky Skaggs guitarist Clay Hess (now with Mountain Heart), the CD was recorded with Nashville musicians such as Clay, Randy Kohrs, Terry Baucom and Darrin Vincent. The CD has received great reviews and the concert promises to be one of the premier local bluegrass events of the year.
