She will play the church’s unique pipe organ, a large, tonally varied, classic instrument designed and built for First Presbyterian’s newly renovated sanctuary in 2003 by Casavant of Canada.
“A new instrument of this caliber devoted to weekly worship is uncommon Central New York,” said the Rev. Dr. Craig Lindsey, pastor of First Presbyterian. “We spent months searching for a musician capable of realizing its full potential in our services, and are delighted with the result.”
Hindenlang earned a graduate degree from the Eastman School of Music and studied organ and conducting at Westminster Choir College, Cornell University, Wells College, and the Choate School. In addition to working as a church organist, she has served as a lecturer in music history at Colgate University and the University of Rochester, and taught organ privately and as an adjunct instructor at Wells College.
She continues as director of music for St. Joseph School in Auburn, where she designed and implemented a new choral and general music program for children in first through eighth grades.
At the First Presbyterian Church of Skaneateles, Hindenlang will coordinate an active music program that includes adult, children’s and bell choirs. The church is also home to the Skaneateles Festival, a nationally recognized summer concert series now in its 30th year.
