That’s according to Mary Beth Lovejoy, who recently became an independent publishing consultant with Heritage Maker, a home-based business.
Similar to home-based businesses such as lia Sophia, Pampered Chef and Partylite, Heritage Makers operates with a consultant scheduling a “party” with a host/hostess, who then invites guests to the event where the consultant conducts a demonstration of the products being sold. The difference between Heritage Maker and other home-based businesses, however, is that in addition to products being sold, skills are also taught.
“[Our parties consist] of a workshop helping people to use computer applications,” Lovejoy said.
The computer applications enable participants to create books, calendars, trading cards and more, then each person can purchase their finished product online.
Lovejoy said a typical party consists of “a demonstration, then attendees get a free membership to the web site (heritagemakers.com). You only pay if you decide to publish something, but you can play as much as you like. Create cookbooks, murals, postcards, wedding invitations, the list goes on and on. It all depends on your imagination.”
Imagination doesn’t apply to projects, alone – hostesses can get creative when scheduling parties, too.
“One woman held a party and did a theme of cookbooks with old pictures of her with her kids in the kitchen,” Lovejoy said. “She used that to present to her attendees.”
Publishing rights are purchased with a discounted price from consultants or online directly from heritagemakers.com. The user-friendly publishing system allows customization of projects and, once submitted, users will receive a professionally stitched and library bound book in 10 to 15 business days. Book prices start at $35 and vary based on the book size and number of pages. Other products such as cards, calendars, etc. can also be created and ordered online.
This month, Heritage Makers is featuring Christmas in July.
“Now is a good time to create your own Christmas cards,” Lovejoy said.
As the only Heritage Makers consultant in the Baldwinsville area, Lovejoy said she is trying to expand the business. In addition, the company provides weekly web-inars where new consultants are trained and existing consultants get support.
“Everyone has a story to tell,” she said. “We all have moments we wish we had captured.”
