Brandyann Phelps of Camden was the town of Vienna historian, a beloved friend, cherished author and longtime contributor to Eagle Newspapers.
Eagle Newspapers was notified of the passing of a longtime contributor to the Madison County area publications on Thursday Oct. 29. Town of Vienna Supervisor Nicol Baker announced that Brandyann Phelps of Camden had passed away at 4:30 a.m. Oct. 29. The news was first given to her family and then to some of Phelps’ close acquaintances.

Phelps was the town of Vienna historian and the author of "The Murray Brook Frog." Her "frog" columns were featured in the weekly edition of the Madison County Eagle.

Phelps recently travelled to Louisiana about two weeks ago to seek medical treatment for what she said was a “nagging cold.” Her ailment turned out to be pneumonia. Although Phelps was released from the Medical Center of Louisiana at New Orleans about a week ago, she was re-admitted Monday Oct. 26 and listed in critical condition.

Her pneumonia had progressed so much that fluid had gathered around her heart. A few days later, it was discovered that cancer had developed in her lungs which quickly moved to her heart.

It is with great sadness that the town of Vienna and several surrounding area community members will say “farewell,” much too soon to a close friend. The town will hold a memorial for Phelps at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at town hall.

Brandyann Phelps will be kept in our thoughts always. Her family is in our thoughts as well. A tribute to Phelps will be in the Nov. 4 edition of the Madison County Eagle.
