‘You pick sunflowers’ extended at Rogers Center

Madison County Eagle 11/06/09More articles
The sunflower crop is still abundant! If you feed birds, or if you are interested in feeding birds through the winter, this is a fun activity to gather food for them. You don’t even need a bird feeder! In either case, come to the Department of Environmental Conservations Rogers Environmental Education Center in Sherburne to harvest your own sunflower seed heads. Information is available on storage of heads and how to offer them as food to wildlife.

Call to make arrangements to pick (607) 674-4017, ext. 623. You can drive to the sunflower patch by following the signs up Bingham Road across from the main parking lot entrance. Bring a hand clipper and grocery bags. Each filled bag is $2. Picking will continue until inclement weather prevents access to the field.
