Lysander Park will accept trees for recycling after the Holidays from 9 to 4 p.m. Dec. 30 and Jan. 2 to 9.

Swimming lessons
Swimming lessons will be held Saturdays from Jan. 9 to March 27 at Baker High School pool. There will be no lessons Jan. 23 or Feb. 20. Pre-testing will begin Jan. 9 to make sure children are placed in the right level. Classes are designed for children 5 years and older or for children (over 44” tall) and are limited to 10 participants.

Beginner karate
This course covers the fundamentals of karate while also preparing participants for further study. Training will aid concentration, improve the cardiovascular system, increase coordination, develop muscle tone, teach discipline and encourage over-all mental and physical conditioning. In addition to effective self-defense, students will learn important concepts such as discipline, courtesy, integrity, respect and self-control. Classes include a mix of focused games and serious training to build confidence and self esteem. Parents are encouraged to join their child and learn together. Goju Ryu will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays (Jan. 6 to Feb. 24 – no class Feb. 17) at Palmer School for ages 6 through adult. Tae Kwon Do will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Fridays (from Jan. 8 to Feb. 12) at Palmer School for ages 6 through adult.

Advanced karate
Yellow Belts and up will enjoy a deeper study of Karate, both in technique and philosophy. They will continue their traditional karate studies and be guided to explore new areas including human physiology and Chinese Healing Theory as they apply to health and self-defense. Traditional pressure point techniques will be taught with an emphasis on practical self-defense. Students will additionally cultivate compassion, open-mindedness and personal awareness through their studies and experiences. Classes are Shikaze Ryu affiliated. This class will be held 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays (Jan. 6 to Feb. 24 – no class Feb. 17) at Palmer School.

Tai Chi
Tai Chi is a Chinese martial art that is primarily practiced for its health benefits including a means for dealing with tension and stress. Tai Chi is considered a “soft” style martial arts, though regular practice provides for an excellent low cardio, toning workout. Tai Chi emphasizes complete relaxation and is essentially taught as a form of meditation in motion. The mind becomes quiet as the body moves to rejuvenate and strengthen itself. Soft, slow, flowing and gentle movements build on the development of balance, coordination and strong energy flow. This creates a healthful and rewarding treat to daily living. This class will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays (Jan. 6 to Feb. 24 – no class Feb. 17) at Palmer School for ages 15 and older.

Adult karate
This class will begin the journey to the heart of traditional Karate-Do. For those wishing to extend or expand current or past studies and beginners wishing to develop their physical and mental abilities, this program will instill and enhance basic through advanced concepts of martial training and the application of techniques. Studies will focus on the physics of movement, Chi (energy) manipulation and pressure point theory as they apply to health and self-defense. Students can also expect an introduction to Zen philosophy as it relates to martial arts. Classes will be small and focused and are Shikaze Ryu affiliated. This class will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Fridays (Jan. 8 to Feb. 12) at Palmer School for adults.

SilverSneakers Yoga Stretch
Yoga Stretch will move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity. For more information on the program, call Riverside Fitness Center at 638-3472. This class will be held from 10:15 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays (Jan. 12 to March 2) at Riverside Fitness Center for ages 55 +.

SilverSneakers muscular strength and range of movement
Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activities for daily living. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a SilverSneakers ball are offered for resistance. A chair is used for seated and/or standing support. For information on the program, call Riverside Fitness Center at 638-3472. This class will be held from 10:15 to 11 a.m. Mondays and Thursdays (Jan. 11 to March 4) at Riverside Fitness Center for ages 55 +.

Snowmobile safety course
This course covers snowmobile safety, common emergencies, dangers, appropriate dress, common maintenance, snowmobile laws, trail markers and signage and hand signals. In order to legally operate a snowmobile on public lands, youth ages 10 to 13 must take a snowmobile safety course, obtain a safety certificate, and be accompanied by a person over 18. (Bring a lunch for a short break.) This course will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday Jan. 9 at the Baldwinsville Public Library. Pre-registration is required to attend this course.

Baldwinsville youth wrestling
This five-week program for boys and girls in third through sixth grades is an excellent way to learn some of the right moves and holds that once made Baldwinsville a power house in the sport. This is a contact program, held in a safe and fun environment. Please note that this is also a co-ed program and girls may have to wrestle boys. This program will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays (Jan. 5 to Feb. 11).

Baseball fundamentals
This eight-week program will cover the basic fundamentals of baseball; throwing, catching, hitting and running to help improve your game this season. This program is also a great way to get ready for spring tryouts. Your instructor for this program is Jeff Harris from Baldwinsville Little League. This program is for boys and girls 8 to 12 years old. This program will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays (Jan. 20 to March 17 – no class Feb. 17) at Elden Elementary.

Zumba fitness
Zumba fuses hypnotic musical rhythms and tantalizing moves to create a dynamic workout system designed to be fun and easy to do. Our goal is simple: We want people to want to work out, to love working out, to get hooked. Zumba is fun...it's the type of exercise you'll want to do every day and feel good about doing it. It's different. You probably never thought you'd be exercising to this type of music. It's effective. It is an aerobic workout, which we all know works. But it's more fun, which will make you stick with the program until you get results. This class will be held from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. Tuesdays (Jan. 5 to Feb. 2) at Elden Elementary in the gymnasium.

Spin class
This eight-week, high-energy class will provide participants with a 500 calorie burn, cardiovascular benefits, shapely legs, companionship, mental stamina, increased energy and a low impact workout. No matter the weather, spinners are guaranteed a great workout. This class is held from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. Tuesdays (Jan. 5 to Feb. 23) at Riverside fitness center.

Introduction to dance
Be a hit on the dance floor at your next social event, whether it’s a wedding or just out for fun. Learn basic skills including proper styling, poise, lead and follow. Ballroom dance includes: Fox Trot, Waltz, Cha Cha, Salsa and Polka. The Instructor will be from Walt Medicis Dance Studio. The first session is Ballroom Dancing held from 8 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays (Jan. 5 to Feb. 2) at Elden Elementary.

Juniors tennis
These are group lessons for children taught by Chris Galle and Lisa Pento with Tennis-N-Gear. Pre-registration is required to attend this program. Lessons, for children from 4 to 13 years old and adults, are held at Gold’s Gym on Morgan Road.
