Girls hoops Wildcats beat Auburn; boys beaten

West Genesee's basketball teams had profoundly different outcomes from its pair of games against Auburn on Friday night.
On the girls side, the Wildcats bounced back from its Dec. 15 defeat to Baldwinsville, taking out the Maroons 51-40, while the WG boys team went on the road and struggled throughout a 71-42 defeat.
In Camillus, the WG girls played the same kind of defense it had shown against B'ville - but put more points on the board, more than doubling Auburn's output in a 24-11 first half.
To its credit, the Maroons roared back within 38-33 when its offense woke up in the third period, but went cold again in the fourth quarter as the Wildcats pulled clear.
Deanna Apps led WG with 12 points. Lexie Myers had seven points, while Emily Tripodi and Carly DiCocco earned six points apiece. Emily Felter and Nicole Schattinger each had 12 points on the Maroons' side.
Over in Auburn, it was a far different tale. WG's boys only had eight points in both the first and third periods, slow starts to the half that allowed Auburn to take quick control.
Unable to build upon its overtime win over Baldwinsville earlier in the week, the Wildcats got outscred in every period, as Nick Wood (15 points) was the only WG player to hit double figures. Colin Monroe and Tyler Carr each had six points. Auburn featured Ronzell Allen getting 19 points and Julian Richardson earning 15 points.
For the boys Wildcats, the next action comes in the Dec. 28-29 Marcellus Tournament.
