County sheriff's department handles knife threats in Sullivan

08/25/09
Madison County Sheriff I. Cary said that deputies reported to a Fyler Road-Kirkville residence in the Town of Sullivan at 3:30 p.m. Sunday Aug. 23 in response to a report of a possible suicidal male armed with a knife.

The man is in his 30s, and had reportedly threatened to harm himself and any law enforcement officers that respond.
The sheriff’s deputies that were ion scene were assisted by the town of Manlius Police Department and the New York Stat Police. New York state Park Police also provided assistance throughout the call.

With the assistance of the Madison county 911 Center dispatchers, communication with the man inside the residence was made possible.

After two-plus hours of conversation and negotiations, the man agreed to exit the residence while unarmed. He was taken into custody and no injuries were reported during the incident.

The man was transported to a Syracuse area hospital for mental health evaluation. There are no criminal charges pending.
