Kenneth J. Kunkel, Jr., Madison County Clerk, is pleased to announce that Deputy Madison County Clerk Denise Roe of Hamilton was recently appointed to the Region 6 New York State Archives Advisory Committee.
New York State Regional Advisory Officer Dr. Suzanne Etherington said that Roe is an inspiration. "She has such energy and creative ideas," Etherington said.
For the past three years Roe has managed the archives and digitization grants projects for the Madison County Clerk’s Office. This project has been responsible for cataloging, organizing, and preserving thousands of archival records and documents thought lost in the fire that destroyed the Madison County Court House, then located in Morrisville.
"These records contain valuable historical facts, providing research opportunities for historians, genealogists and researchers. This information has been sought after for many years. Preservation and conservation projects here at the County are ongoing," Roe said.
The Regional Advisory Committee is charged with advising the State Regional Advisory Officer on local records management issues and to provide a local liaison role to their area. Region 6 encompasses the counties of Madison, Otsego, Delaware, Chenango, Cortland, Broome, Tioga, Tompkins, Chemung and Schuyler.
New York State Archives cares for and provides access to more than 200 million documents that tell the story of New York from the seventeenth century to present.
