Glen Haven School hosts old-fashioned Halloween party

Staff reports 10/21/09More articles
GLEN HAVEN — No matter your age, whether you are young or just young-at-heart, you are cordially invited to attend a traditional Halloween party from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday Oct. 29 at the Glen Haven School and Public Library, 7325 Fair Haven Road, Glen Haven at the head (south end) of Skaneateles Lake.
Party attendees may choose to dress in costumes appropriate for the occasion or they may simply come dressed as they are.
Among the scheduled activities and games to be played will be some that have been enjoyed for generations, including pumpkin carving, bobbing for apples, catching a donut on a string, as well as a few surprises. Candy treats will be provided for the children, and cider and donuts will be available for everyone. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
The party, sponsored by the Glen Haven Historical Society, is open to the public and is offered without charge.
Programs and events such as this one are scheduled from June through October each year. The Glen Haven School and Public Library, designed by prominent New York City architect Ehrick K. Rossiter and built in 1901, has been restored by society members and is listed on the National Register of Historic Sites.
The School’s last teacher (it was closed in 1968) and her daughter, an alumna, are available in the spring to host elementary school classes for special “A Day in a One-Room School” programs.
For more information about any of these activities, call Bud Jermy at (607) 749-4365 or e-mail cwj1@cornell.edu.
