Fall Carp Classic - Slow fishing for anglers

Erin Smith Wisneski 10/28/09More articles
Sixteen teams participated in last weekend’s Red Mill Inn Fall Carp Classic with the top three teams reeling in eight carp weighing a total of approximately 153 pounds. First place went to the Windy City Carpers, Tracy Jourdan and Dr. Frank Rink, both of Chicago, IL, who caught four fish weighing 69 pounds. Second place went to Jason Long and Dan Kelsey, both of New York, who caught three fish weighing 44 pounds. Third place went to Duke Strache and John Virginia, both of New York, who caught three fish weighing a total of 40 pounds. The biggest fish caught was a 26.06-pound carp by Kent Appleby and Bill Markle of All Seasons Sports team.

While the carp weren’t biting and the weather wasn’t cooperating, anglers plugged along. Only seven eligible carp were caught Friday and nine on Saturday for a total of 16 with a combined weight of 265.05 pounds for the two-day, 20-hour event.

Angler Jason Bernhardt reels in cast to re-bait his pole. Bernhardt teamed up with Jim McKenna for the Red Mill Inn Fall Carp Classic.
