The American Diabetes Association announced Wednesday Oct. 28 that registration for the 2010 Tour de Cure Bicycling/Fund Raising Event at Verona Beach State Park is now under way. Registration can be accomplished by calling 1-888-DIABETES or 1-888-342-2383 or by visiting the American Diabetes Association Web site at diabetes.org/tour. Imagine skipping over the Central New York winter and riding your bicycle on an early June day, simply by registering today.
Bicyclists from all over Central New York will hit the pavement on Sunday, June 6, 2010 at Verona Beach State Park to cycle and raise funds for the American Diabetes Association (ADA) of Central New York. The event – Tour de Cure – celebrating its 18th year locally - offers bicyclists five different routes, ranging from 15 miles to 100 miles. Cyclists will tour through the towns and villages surrounding Oneida Lake, and the opportunity to raise money to be used to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. The funds raised through the Tour de Cure support the essential research efforts of the ADA to find a cure for this deadly disease, diabetes treatment education and advocacy for adults and children.
Riders are required to register for a $15 entry fee and raise a minimum of $150. Most riders have exceeded this expectation with 73 surpassing the $500 mark in 2009. In addition, the American Diabetes Association is offering several incentives to register and begin fund-raising early, including a Tour de Cure Rider-in-Training long sleeved tee shirt. Tour de Cure registration personnel are encouraging the formation of teams specifically from the Central New York business community. Sixty-two teams participated in the 2009 tour.
Whether you ride solo or with a team, the Tour de Cure is a unique opportunity for businesses, groups, co-workers or families to come together to fight this disease, raise awareness and build a sense of community.
