Hamilton plans ‘World of Holidays’ celebration

Madison County Eagle 11/01/09More articles
The Hamilton Business Alliance and downtown merchants will once again present A “World of Holidays” to celebrate the 2009 holiday season with a unique series of events and activities that provide an opportunity for residents and visitors to travel the world without leaving home.

Businesses and organizations throughout the village will each adopt a country as the focus of their holiday decorating and in-store specials. Each country will have a page in the “World of Holidays” passport, which contains facts about how different nations and cultures celebrate the holidays, and is designed to be stamped for validation by merchants when shoppers make a purchase of any amount.

Passports with three or more stamps at the end of the season may be entered in a drawing for prize packages that include an overnight stay at the Renaissance Hotel in Syracuse, spa services at SpaZend (Central New York’s Asian-inspired day spa) and other prizes.

The celebration begins on Saturday Nov. 21 with a full day of sales and specials from featured Hamilton merchants, who will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Shoppers can take advantage of free gift-wrapping at the Colgate Inn from noon to 6 p.m., hear live piano music by Anita Humer, and dine at the Inn for a buffet dinner between 5 and 8 p.m. for $15 or any of Hamilton’s other wonderful eating establishments. Evening entertainment will be available: catch “The Water Coolers,” a live, nationally-touring comedy performance, at the Palace Theater or a movie at the Hamilton Theater. End the evening with a warm beverage or nightcap at one of the village’s cafes or restaurants.

“I’m proud to showcase my Ukrainian heritage through ‘World of Holidays,’” said Reg Wilson, owner of Hamilton Village Real Estate and member of the HBA’s “World of Holidays” planning committee. “What a unique and fun way to celebrate the season and stimulate the local economy.”

This holiday season, feel like you are traveling the world without leaving home! Pick up your passport from any participating merchant beginning Nov. 21 and help keep the Hamilton community vibrant and growing.
