Deputies identify driver in Route 81 rollover

Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin E. Walsh reports that deputies have identified the driver involved in Monday night's rollover crash on Route 81.

Charles Whittier, 4, of 5 Perfield Road, Central Square, is currently listed in critical condition at University Hospital. Whittier was operating his Chevrolet Blazer when he lost control of his SUV.

Deputies investigating the crash report that witnessess said that Whittier was traveling at a high rate of speed and was weaving in and out of traffic. Just before 6 p.m., Whittier travelled off the west shoulder of Route 81 south, just south of Route 31, where his vehicle rolled several times.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and members of the Sheriff’s Accident Investigation Team will continue the investigation.
