Language enrichment at Elden

Kelly Cary 11/20/09More articles
In November, students studying German at Baker High School spent time in the second-grade classrooms of Elden Elementary School teaching the younger students the language.

It was part of a language enrichment exercise for the high school students as well as for the elementary students.
The Baker students worked in groups of two or three, and they had the responsibility of teaching topics such as songs, colors and shapes, all in the German language. The students prepared their own professional lesson plans, incorporating visual aids such as flash cards and posters that they made themselves.

Alex Malecki, who is studying German at Baker High School, calls on second-grader Gage Revere as his peers Maddison Bird, left, and Lauren Kline listen. With Malecki is Baker student Joseph Romeo. The high school students visited Elden Elementary School in November to teach second-graders some basic German words.
