B'ville: Cub Scouts benefit Humane Association

Staff reports 12/22/09More articles
During November, fourth grade cub scouts from Baldwinsville's Pack 71 organized a good turn project to benefit the Human Association of Central New York.

Scouts spent a full week raising needed supplies for the shelter located on Taft Road in Liverpool. On Nov. 21, the scouts loaded up their parents’ vans and delivered $700 worth of food and supplies to the shelter.

Pack leaders thanked Tweeter Feeders and the Baldwinsville Farmers Co-Op for their generous donations to the project adding “These boys conceived and carried out a project that quickly grew in size while leaders stood back, offering only guidance to these 9- and 10-year-old scouts.”
Scouting values include compassion, cooperation, perseverance and resourcefulness. This project needed all of these elements from all the participants.

Cub Scouting is fun with a purpose and open to boys between 5 and 10 years of age. To learn about Cub Scouting in your neighborhood, please contact the Hiawatha Seaway council of the Boys Scouts of America at 463-0201.

Cubs visit with shelter residents who are available for adoption.
