The ceremony, officiated by Town Justice Charles Major, also included a group swearing in for town Clerk Janet Aaron, tax collector Lori Milne and highway superintendent Jim Card. Town councilors-elect Steve McGlynn and Rick Keyes were not at the ceremony.
Looking on were family members, fellow incumbent board members Jim Greenfield and Nancy Murray and members of the Skaneateles Republican Committee.
“I never in my professional career never considered that aspect of it,” Roney said in regard to being female and in her position. “I think it speaks volumes about the community.”
For Roney, the job at hand doesn’t have to do with who is a woman and who is not. It’s simply about looking out for the best interest of the community.
As she prepared for her new role, Roney and the new board members have spent time preparing themselves for office. For instance, they have met with committees and readied themselves for this past Monday night — the annual reorganizational meeting where committee members are named and the new board will make their first official acts as town representatives.
“We’ve been working through some of those various things since the election,” Roney said adding that by working together the board is hoping for a smooth transition. “I’m excited. We’re going to have issues just like any other board.”
But as issues go, Roney is confident the board members will work through them.
As for Roney’s family — husband Mark, daughter Lauren, 8, and son Jamie, 13 — they, too, are excited for the matriarch’s new role. Jamie busily took photos as his mom talked to those in attendance and eagerly showed her some of the shots he’d gotten of the event.
