This year's Shamrock ran under sunshine

On Saturday March 6 the Tipp Hill Association presented its fifth annual Shamrock Run/ walk event at Burnet Park. Although the day started out with a cold frosty morning the bright sun warmed up the air to about 40 degrees by the 11 am race start time.

There were more then 2,500 people who ran or walked in this event. Most wore a variety of running clothes but several, in tribute to the time of the year, wore some St. Patrick's green. One man covered himself with some kind of green fabric. It even covered his face. Perhaps he was the Green Hornet?

Participants in this event came from many places inside and outside Onondaga County, as well as the Tipp Hill neighborhood. There were a wide variety of people from all age groups from senior citizens to children. The four mile course started at Burnet Park and traveled on streets past many neighborhood landmarks such as the "green-on-top" traffic light, Stone Throwers Park, St. Patrick's Church and School, St. John The Baptist Church and Coleman's Restaurant.

There are several hills going up and down through the neighborhood with the longest going back up to Burnet Park. Some runners said that this race was a warm up event to help them prepare for "Syracuse Mountain Goat Run" later in the season.

At the end of the event runners gathered in the old Burnet Park Ice Skating to enjoy some fruit and bagels, get a massage and find out the event results. Hundreds of people enjoyed spending time together outside in the beautiful but rare Syracuse sun.

Special thanks to the Tipp Hill Association, all the volunteers and all the sponsors who made this event so successful. It was a great day, a great event and a great way to bring people together in a unique (and truly green) Syracuse neighborhood.
