Eight-year Board of Education member suffers heart attack during Monday night's board meeting

Last night, the Liverpool Central School District lost one of its strongest advocates and best friends, Superintendent Dr. Richard Johns said this morning.

At the end of the March 15 Liverpool Board of Education meeting, Board of Education president Pat Mouton suffered an apparent heart attack. She died shortly thereafter.

“I am asking that we observe a moment of contemplation in our secondary schools this morning to demonstrate our appreciation and affection for a lady who dedicated her entire career to the school she loved so much,” Johns said.

Mouton began serving the school board in May 2002, and was a retired English teacher.

Her community involvement included positions such as secretary of the Liverpool Historical Society, past president of Beta Kappa, a chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international educational society.

The American Dairy Association and Dairy Council recently honored Liverpool Central School District Board of Education President Patricia Mouton with the Universal Breakfast Champion Award during a special visit at Chestnut Hill Elementary.

At approximately 10:50 p.m. during the March 15 meeting, Mouton showed signs of fainting after the school board voted to approve the closure of Wetzel Road Elementary.

Mouton began to slump forward in her chair on the Liverpool High School Auditorium stage and was slightly responsive to her fellow board members who wanted to know if she was OK.

Emergency medical services from Northern Onondaga Volunteer Ambulance arrived on the scene shortly after Maureen Patterson, Assistant Superintendent for School Improvement, made the 9-1-1 call.

When NOVA arrived on scene bystanders were performing CPR on Mouton.

NOVA then transported Mouton to St. Joseph’s Hospital for a possible full arrest after a syncopal episode with seizure like activity.

Moyers Corners Fire Department was also dispatched to the scene to assist NOVA.

Memorial services:

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Patricia’s name be made to the SPCA, 5878 E. Molloy Road, Syracuse, NY 13211.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday March 18 at the Maurer Funeral Home, 300 Second St., Liverpool.

A brief service will be held at the funeral home following the calling hours.

Mouton's obituary can be found on cnylink.com.

Eagle Newspapers sends their condolences to Patricia Mouton’s family and close friends. She was an asset to the community and a long-time supporter of the education and future of thousands of children in the Liverpool Central School District.
