Local choirs, performers sing to raise money for Amaus Health Center

Members of the Syracuse-area community gathered together March 12 at the Immaculate Conception Parish in Fayetteville to host an entertainment filled evening dedicated to bringing awareness and support to local and worldwide causes.

A multitude of musicians and dancers participated in the event, performing twenty-five acts in total. Two vocal groups from Cazenovia, the Cazenovia College Chorale, conducted by Bruce Campbell, and the Cazenovia High School Chamber Choir, under the direction of Teresa Campbell, performed several songs lending their talent to the causes at hand.

The benefit was organized by Amaus Health Center, which began its missions in July 2007 and has since aimed to extend assistance to those in unstable economic situations in our community. The group has aided countless men, women and children in the area, offering services including free physicals to children who are unable to receive them otherwise.

Half of the proceeds from the concert went to the everyday operations of the clinic, while the other half was sent to the relief fund in Haiti.

Every performance of the night was well received; various local talents executed each song and dance beautifully. In particular, performances by Shawn Hebert singing "Tell My Father" from "The Civil War" and Emlyn Clark performing "Astonishing" from "Little Women" captured the austere yet hopeful theme of the event. The concert garnered a favorable showing of supporters who donated both their time and money to help those less fortunate.

Ian Abernathy is a sophomore at Cazenovia High School.
