Montero, Davis sworn in as Camillus leaders

The village of Camillus welcomed its new mayor and trustee last week during the annual meeting.
Mayor Michael Montero and Trustee Ben Davis were both sworn in at the April 1 organizational meeting. Davis was appointed trustee for a one-year term to replace Montero, who was elected mayor on March 18.
Davis and his wife, Desiree, moved to the village three years ago from San Francisco. The couple has a 2-year-old son and a 12-month-old daughter.
“Our biggest obstacle right now is creating an environment that businesses want to come to and that customers feel would be worth their while to come into the village instead of bypassing it,” Davis said.

Meeting highlights:
The village board will meet at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month beginning May 13. The board previously met on Tuesdays.

The board discussed a new logo for the village signs and trucks, which still bear “Home of the World Famous Camillus Cutlery.” A $5,000 grant secured by former mayor Kurt Brunger will be used to update the village’s logo and other beautification efforts.

Code Enforcement Officer John Williams announced the Sunoco gas station on the corner of Newport Road and Genesee Street is set to re-open by Memorial Day.
