Former visually impaired teacher
Charlotte Virginia Morris Derby, 69, of Venice, Fla. and Baldwinsville, died March 6, 2007. She was born Jan. 26, 1938 in Ogdensburg and moved to this area in 2000 from Baldwinsville.
Mrs. Derby was a visually impaired teacher in New York, retiring in 1999.
She was a member of DeWitt Community Church in Baldwinsville and Grace United Methodist Church in Venice, Fla., a member of the American Association of University Women, member of the Association of Visually Impaired in Syracuse, volunteer for Pregnancy Outreach Program and the American Cancer Society, received the national Teacher of the Year Award for Visually Impaired and retired from Onondaga BOCES in 1999.
She is survived by her husband, Robert of Venice and Baldwinsville; son, David (Teresa) Rudd of Rochester; daughter, Carrie (John) Ryan of Tully; three stepsons, Martin (Laurie Ann) Derby of Hamburg, Eric (Ellen) Derby of Clifton Springs and Brian Derby of Baldwinsville; step-daughter, Andrea Derby of Camillus; sister, Alice M. Poole of Canton; brother, Phillip (Jill) Morris of Wichita, Kan.; four grandchildren, Lacey Rudd, Tyler Beckhorn and Justin and Cassidy Ryan; seven step-grandchildren, Aaron, Aurora, Elizabeth, Jamison, Rachel, Katrina and Jessica Derby; one niece and three nephews.
Services: 3 p.m. Saturday, March 10 at Falardeau Funeral Home, Baldwinsville. Burial: St. Mary's Cemetery, Baldwinsville. Calling hours: 2 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home, 93 Downer St., prior to the service.
