10/30/09 Monteleone, Margaret E. Margaret E. “Midge” Monteleone, 55, of Fayetteville, passed away after a long illness Oct. 30, 2009 at Francis House surrounded by her family. Born in Syracuse, she was graduated from The Convent School in Syracuse; Midge received a B.S. from St. Bonaventure University, Olean, NY. She then earned her Masters in Elementary Education from the State University of New York at Oswego. She was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Fayetteville. Midge retired this year from the Syracuse City School District where she taught elementary education at Martin Luther King and H. W. Smith schools for over twenty years. Prior to the public school system Midge taught in the Catholic School District at Our Lady of Pompei and St. Patrick parish schools. Early in her career she worked at ARC in their recreational programs for children. Midge was inspired as a high school student to become a teacher while working with Sr. Angelus at a small Montessori school run by the Franciscans. Midge excelled in reaching the educationally challenged children. Midge was an avid sports fan, attended many of her nephews’ and nieces’ athletic events. She bowled in the Syracuse Teachers’ league and frequently attended Broadway shows. Her sense of humor will be missed. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Midge’s many care givers. She was predeceased by her brother-in-law, James L. Whitton. Surviving are her parents, Dodge and Julie Monteleone of Fayetteville; sisters, Connie Monteleone Whitton and Carol (Joseph) Hamel; nephews, Joey and Lucas Hamel and niece, Alyssa Hamel of Manlius; nephew, James (Sandy) Whitton, great nephew Ethan Whitton and great niece, Ellen Whitton of Southwick, MA; niece, Susan Whitton of Malta, NY; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Funeral Services: 9:15 a.m. Wednesday Oct. 4 at Eaton-Tubbs-Schepp Funeral Home and 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 400 Salt Springs Road, Fayetteville. Interment will be at the Fayetteville Cemetery. Calling hours: 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday Oct. 3 at the funeral home, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville.
