10/29/09 Rees, Margaret
Margaret “Joan” Rees, 73, left this life Oct. 29, 2009, much as she lived her life, with grace and dignity and concern for those she loved. She died at home after a valiant effort to maintain quality of life in the face of pancreatic cancer.
Joan graduated from Cornell Medical Nusing School in 1959 and went on to work at Cornell Medical Center in NYS as a head nurse in charge of a special cardiac unit. She married in 1965 and lived in Lagos, Nigeria, British Guiana (now Guyana), London, England, Mamaroneck, NY and finally in Manlius, with her husband Martin V. Rees, who survives her. Also surviving are her sons, Michael Rees (Michiko) and Andrew Rees (Juraj) both of Seattle, Washington, her sisters, June Nolan, (David) of Deposit, NY, Suzanne Feehan of Ithaca, nieces and nephews, Suzanne Schmidt (Bob), Deborah Feehan, Julia Wheeler (Ron), Stephen Feehan (Maureen), John Feehan (Julie), Kathleen Richardson (Jody) and Patrick Nolan. Also Peter Feehan, Bob Genant and Robert Hall. She was predeceased by her parents, Ethel and Fenton Busfield.
She was most active in her church parishes, St. Thomas Episcopal Church of Marmaroneck and Christ Episcopal Church of Manlius, NY and she loved being with friends and family. Music was one of her great passions and she loved knitting, gardening and walking.
A memorial service will be celebrated in late November. There will be no calling hours. The family has requested in accordance with Joan’s wishes, that in lieu of flowers, donations be offered to the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, 411 Montgomery Street, Suite 40, Syracuse, New York 13202 or Christ Episcopal Church of Manlius, 407 E. Seneca St., Manlius, NY, 13104.
