10/20/09 Sullivan, Evelyn R. Evelyn R. Ruschak Sullivan, 88, went to be with her Lord peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday Oct. 20, 2009. She was born in Auburn to John R. And Mildred M. Post Franzel. She attended Auburn schools. Evelyn married Andrew Ruschak in 1940. After 22 years of marriage, Andy died suddenly. With four children to raise, Evelyn began working at the Cayuga Museum. She was a wonderful cook who created and sold wedding cakes. Her original tomato bread recipe won first prize at the Cayuga County Tomato Fest. She excelled in all activities she pursued including acting, sewing, painting and gardening. In 1977 Evelyn married John J. Sullivan and moved to California. They made their home in Yucca Valley and spent many happy hours in their desert home. Evelyn loved her poodles (her “kids”) and embraced the solitude and beauty of the desert. John passed away in 1996. Evelyn traveled between California and New York for several years. After suffering a stroke in 2006, she moved back to Auburn to spend her last years enjoying life near her family. Evelyn is survived by her loving and devoted daughters Cheryl M. Morris and Nancy (William) Annibale of Auburn and Terri (Donald) Evans of Skaneateles; grandchildren Richard (Melody) Morris, Nicholas (Allison) Morris, Toni Lynn (Timothy) Millard, Tracy, Lisa and Cori Martino, Kelley Parker, Cynthia VanCleef, Robert Wood, Judith Dauenhauer and Andy Ruschak; 9 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; her sister Doris (Donald) Atkins of Sennett, a daughter in law Maria Ruschak of Auburn and a beloved friend in California, Alex Price. She was predeceased by her parents, husbands and a son, David A. Ruschak in 1995, a son in law Linford (Tony) Morris in 2008 and a great grandson Nicholas Sanders Morris on October 1, 2009. The family expresses deepest gratitude and special thanks to everyone at Finger Lakes Center for Living, including staff and friends, for their kind, loving, and professional care. Evelyn will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and giggle! Services were held Saturday at the Robert D. Gray Funeral Home, Skaneateles. In lieu of flowers if you wish you may contribute to SAVES.
