11/02/09 VonDauber, Bernard K.
Bernard K. VonDauber, 90, of Oriskany Falls, passed away peacefully, on Monday Nov. 2, 2009, at the Crouse Community Center of Morrisville, with his loving family at his side, following a lengthy illness.
He was born on Feb. 25, 1920, in Richfield Springs, the son of the late Vernon and Sarah Hatsinger VonDauber. He was a WWII Marine veteran having served in the Pacific Theater.  On March 18, 1940, he married Gertrude Charboneau at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Richfield Springs. Their loving union lasted over 69 years until Gertrude’s passing in 2009. He had worked 38 years at Remington Arms as a Forman, retiring in 1980.  Bernard had served as the Police Chief of the former Village of Oriskany Falls Police Department. He had also been a past member of the Oriskany Falls Fire Department and had served as School Board President of  Oriskany Falls School.  Bernard and Gertrude had been residents of Crouse Community Center since 2004. Prior to 2004, they lived in Clarks Mills.  Bernard was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Kelley-Phillips American Legion Post in Oriskany Falls.
Bernard is survived two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Dominick Talarico of Utica and Deborah and Ronald Steinmann of Deansboro; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bernard and Donette VonDauber, Jr., of Mohawk and John and Leslie VonDauber, of Earlville; 12 grandchildren,; 12 great grandchildren; many great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Forest and Richard.
Gertrude’s family extends heartfelt thanks to the, nurses, staff members, and especially, Tammy and Denise, of the Crouse Community Center for all the wonderful care and love given to Gertrude and Bernard.  Your kind acts will always be remembered.
Funeral services: 2 p.m. Monday Nov. 9 at the Paul Funeral Home of Madison.  Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Oriskany Falls. Calling hours: noon to 2 p.m. on Monday prior to the service at the funeral home.
