10/25/09 Colway, Marion
Marion “Rita” Colway, 87, formerly of Lenox Avenue, Oneida, passed away Sunday morning Oct. 25, 2009, in the Extended Care Facility of the Oneida Healthcare Center.
Born in Oneida on Feb. 11, 1922, she was the daughter of George and Nora Murphy Colway. A lifelong resident of Oneida, Rita was a graduate of Oneida High School, Class of 1940.
Prior to her retirement, Ms. Colway was employed by the former Griffiss Air Force Base as a secretary. She was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church and a member of their Altar Rosary Society. Ms. Colway was a collector of dolls and loved gardening.
Surviving are one sister, Margaret “Patricia” Orcutt of Oneida and she was a special aunt to numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by one brother-in-law, John Orcutt and three brothers, George, Paul and Charles Colway.
Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Friday Oct. 30 from St. Patrick’s Church, with a funeral mass will celebrated by Reverend William Mesmer. Interment will be made in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. According to Rita’s wishes, there are no prior calling hours. Contributions may be made to the Extended Care Facility Patient’s Fund, c/o Oneida Healthcare Center Foundation, P.O.Box 705, Oneida, NY 13421 with envelopes available at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., Oneida.
