10/20/09 Hilts, Alfred W. Alfred W. “Bill” Hilts, 77, Herder Road, Blossvale, died Tuesday evening Oct. 20, 2009, in the Stonehedge Nursing Home, Rome, where he had been a patient for the past 12 days. Born in the Town of Augusta, on June 16, 1932, he was the son of Irving and Edna Murfitt Hilts. A lifelong resident of the area, Bill was educated in Verona schools. He married Christine Callahan in East Palatka, Florida, on April 16, 1954. Mr. Hilts was self-employed in several ventures, including trucking and owning and operating Hilts’ Junkyard. He served with the United States Navy, in Korea, during the Korean War. Bill attended Fellowship Baptist Church in Verona Beach. Surviving besides his wife, Christine, is one daughter and son-in-law, Colleen and Melvin Wolfe of Blossvale; two sons, Lester W. Hilts and his fiancée, Patricia Powell of Lee and Robert M. and his wife, Tamara Hilts of Vernon; two sisters, Beverly Durant and Mary Wilcox, both of Verona; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Bernard and Diana Hilts and Richard and Mary Anne Hilts, all of Verona and Eugene and Peggy Hilts of Durhamville; fifteen grandchildren , eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Betty Mc Pherson and three brothers, Dician, Francis and Ronald Hilts. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Saturday Oct. 24 from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main Street, Oneida. Interment will be made in Maple Grove Cemetery. Calling hours: 3 to 7 p.m. Friday Oct. 23 at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Central New York Association for the Visually Impaired, 507 Kent Street, Utica, NY 13501.
