WG, Westhill swimmers take defeats

Phil Blackwell 10/21/09More articles
In the last full week of regular-season action, the West Genesee and Westhill/Corcoran girls swim teams had multiple meets, and found wins to be elusive.
For the Wildcats, that meant two contests in three days, starting with Tuesday’s visit to Baldwinsville and a 52-41 loss to the Bees.
WG lost despite Kim Pedrotti and Amanda Bingham both winning a pair of races. Pedrotti was first in the 200 freestyle in 2:08.96, then went out and swam the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.90 to win that race, too.
As for Bingham, she had a top time of 2:27.55 in the 200 individual medley before going to the 100 backstroke and winning that race in 1:07.97. She would also help the Wildcats claim the 400 freestyle relay (4:06.25) near the end.
In between all this, B’ville won every other race, as Carly Gummer, with her sweep of the 50 freestyle (25.90 seconds) and 100 freestyle (56.88) sprints, plus helping the Bees take the 200 freestyle relay (1:49.33), led the way.
At the same time, Westhill/Corcoran had to run into undefeated Christian Brothers Academy, who ran its win streak to 23 straight meets by beating the Warriors 97-77 despite the challengers taking seven of the 12 events.
Lauren Perry needed 25.75 seconds to prevail in the 50 freestyle and also won the 100 freestyle in 55.79 seconds, while diving star Imani Williams earned 236.15 points.
Elsewhere, Hannah Feeney was first in the 200 IM (2:26.07), as Rachel Perry took the 100 backstroke (1:06.29) and Maureen Carey won the 100 breaststroke. Westhill/Corcoran also took the 400 freestyle relay in 4:43.82 with Feeney, Carey, Brianna Kline and Rachel Perry involved.
