Liverpool, CNS volleyball both advance

Phil Blackwell 11/02/09More articles
Without much difficulty or stress, the Liverpool and Cicero-North Syracuse girls volleyball teams both kept their hopes for a Section III Class AA title alive.
Starting out as the no. 2 seed, the Warriors took out no. 7 seed Central Square Friday night in the a four-game sweep, while the no. 4 seed Northstars did the same thing to no. 5 seed Fayetteville-Manlius.
Liverpool wasted little time taking charge against the Red Hawks, winning the opening game 25-10, then sailing through the next two games by equal 25-17 margins.
On the back line, Jenna Street and Emily Dumas split duties, as Street got 17 assists, plus three kills and three blocks, and Dumas added 14 assists.
Aubrey Barrett earned 13 kills and four blocks, with Dakota Forell getting 10 kills. Lyteshia Price had five kills and Tiara Gray got four kills, with Anna Daucher contributing four blocks and three kills.
As this went on, CNS took Fayetteville-Manlius apart 25-9 in the opening game. It wasn’t as lopsided in the second and third games, but the Northstars, by the familiar 25-17 margin, knocked out the Hornets.
Morgan Pratte led the front line with 11 kills as Danielle Rawda contributed 10 kills. Deanna Zbikowski served up seven aces, plus four kills and three assists, with Erica Thompson adding four blocks as Meghan Ross put together 24 assists.
In Wednesday’s AA semifinals, CNS would try and knock off unbeaten Baldwinsville as Liverpool faced no. 3 seed Oswego. The finals are Nov. 11 at the Northstars’ gym.
