Liverpool reaches field hockey final; CNS ousted

Phil Blackwell 11/04/09More articles
When the Liverpool field hockey goes for another Section III Class A championship, it will not do so against the last team to beat them, Cicero-North Syracuse.
Reaching the title game did not require much stress for the Warriors, as it took no. 5 seed Baldwinsville apart 7-0 in Tuesday’s Class A semifinal at East Syracuse-Minoa High School’s new turf field.
Nearly two weeks had passed since Liverpool had lost its regular-season finale to CNS 2-1 at Bragman Stadium. During that time, the Warriors rested, stewed over what had gone wrong down the stretch against Northstars, and made sure it wouldn’t happen again.
B’ville, who had required penalty strokes just to get past Fayeteville-Manlius in the first round, never could handle the Warriors’ diverse, all-out attack.
Madison Buckley and Kayla DeAngelis each posted two goals, with Emma Lamison adding one goal and one assist. Beth Lamison got two assists as Kathryn Albro and Meghan Abold also took turns putting in goals.
CNS wanted to join Liverpool in the finals – but Rome Free Academy prevented that reality, edging the Northstars 1-0 in the other semifinal contest at ESM.
The Black Knights struck in the first half, Kaysie Gregory scoring off a feed from Stacie Skidmore, and would play superb defense the rest of the night in defense of that slim margin. CNS only got three shots on the net all night as its season ended with a mark of 8-7.
