J-D, F-M track shines at Kirschenheiter meet

With many stars on hand, the Fayetteville-Manlius and Jamesville-DeWitt indoor track and field teams in the first events of the winter at Manley Field House.
During Monday’s Fred Kirschenheiter Memorial Relays, the Red Rams finished second on the girls side with 47 points, just behind first-place Cicero-North Syracuse (49.5 points) as the Hornets, with 42 points, slid into fourth place.
Katy Pieri and Danielle Doss, with combined clearances of 14 feet 6 inches, won the pole vault because it did so with fewer misses than Phoenix. Liz Pieri and Margaret Fuller took first alone in the high jump, teaming up to clear 9 feet 9 inches.
On the oval, Amanda Tan, Natalie Mannion, Marae Tearney and Sierra Vasiliou combined to win the 4x200 relay in 1:54.68, more than two seconds ahead of runner-up Homer. Doss, Mannion and the Pieri sisters were second in the 4x800 relay in 4:23.66. J-D was also fourth in the long jump and fifth in the shot put.
F-M posted four of the top six times in the mile, including Courtney Chapman (5:04.34) and Mackenzie Carter (5:06.86) in the top two spots as, with Jillian Fanning and Katie Sischo, the Hornets finished in 20:45.71.
Alyssa Hamel, Heather Martin, Hanna Lee and Kathryn Fanning worked together to win the 1,600 sprint medley relay in 4:27.96. Fanning and Martin helped Hannah Luber and Maggie Malone take the 4x800 relay in 10:04.59, where J-D was fourth.
The Hornets also saw Alex Seabury and Katie Perry take third in the long jump (29 feet 8 ½ inches), with Isabel Carapella and Audrey Wallace third in the 55-meter hurdles in 20.08 seconds.
CBA’s Betty Etheredge was second (16 feet) in the individual long jump, with the Brothers also fourth in the 1,600 sprint medley as Ashley Crouch, Julia Nass, Rachel Zajdel and Kathleen Kirkman got fourth place in 4:40.43.
In the boys Kirschenheiter meet, where J-D had 18 points and F-M 14 points, the Hornets’ Alex Hatz returned to action and won the individual mile in 4:21.25. Hatz, Brendan Farrell, Paul Merriman and Joe Hartnett took the team mile in 18:26.12 to account for most of the Hornets’ points. F-M was fourth in the 4x800 relaym, too
J-D saw Bumkoth Jiak, Kevin Schafer, Tyler Petersen and Tim Kendrick run to second in the 4x800 relay in 8:45.19. The Rams were fifth in the long jump (35 feet 9 ¾ inches), with David Salbert fifth among individuals.
