Wondering about

Award-winning columnist, photographer and news writer Ellen Leahy is back as the editor of the Skaneateles Press, in beautiful Skaneateles New York.

She is the former editor of the Skaneateles Press and the Marcellus Observer, and most recently the Syracuse City Eagle. She makes her home in Skaneateles where she is also a freelance photographer and caregiver for her parents, Bill and Marion Leahy.

She began her formal writing career as a columnist with one of her hometown papers, The Duxbury Clipper, in Duxbury, MASS. Born in California, she then moved to Sea Girt, NJ. She is a product of small town America - and the late great American Middle Class.

The photo at right is the drive down to Brook Farm off of West Lake Road - one of my former Skaneateles haunts.

It’s political

eleahy, Wondering about

I never knew what they meant when they said, “It’s political.” But leaving business management and entering the world of communications, where I often follow government, I’ve caught on. Not that there isn’t a degree of politics in business, yet if one is in small business in CNY and successful, they are often focused more on, well, taking care of business. There isn’t a lot of time for positioning for power, or looking to control the game board, as one is often too busy operating said business. Time outside the operation at hand would take away from one’s product and matters of importance to customers and employees.

Presently, New Yorkers have a wonderful example of politics in action...

Where there is flame there is fire

eleahy, Wondering about
I’ve stated before that menopause is similar to the closing down of a factory without the loss of all jobs. The period before this is called perimenopause (PM), which can last up to 13 years.

Where they came up with 13, I’m not sure, but it certainly lives up to its reputation...

Volunteers of CNY, even with cops

eleahy, Wondering about

I once heard Robert Dole speak to the effort his generation completed to supply potable drinking water to every American for free in the form of drinking water fountains. Even so, my generation was able to market drinking water and make a bundle of dough in the process. Was that Democracy meeting capitalism?

I noticed while covering several CNY towns and villages that positions that were once volunteer oriented were going the professional route. In addition more and more credentials and on going training were being required. Case in point volunteer firefighters.

When people volunteer their time and effort there is often passion present for that cause...
