If perception is reality then perhaps Obamas trip to Europe and the Middle east might just change some hearts and minds enough to alter preceptions in our favor. Maybe...

At this point the war in Iraq has lasted too long to actually find any humor in it anymore. Absurd and tragically comical perhaps, but funny is not a word I would use. During my time in the Marines I discovered that sometimes even in the most dire of situations people will say some of the funniest things. Proving that, maybe the only ones that can really find any humor in the Iraq war are the people who have to live it every day of their lives...

Mar 03 Rush Limbaugh and the end of the worldPosted by jbrenneman | 03/03/09
When I first began listening to Rush it was, to be honest because my 89 S-10 only had an am radio in it and I needed something to keep me awake when I drove across the desert. Between him and Art Bell I was exposed to a variety of world views and abstract ideas that although entertaining didn't really cause me to radically alter my perspective on the world all that much. I've always been the type of person who likes to listen, read and dicuss issues that I don't necessarily agree with but can appreciate if they are supported by rational discourse. As the years passed I tended not to listen as much as I use to to talk radio in general because it was becoming too angry and fear based and the audio equilvilent of the crazy homeless man on the street screaming at passing cars...

Ironically in an era of news papers being shut down and cartoonists loosing their jobs the protest over a recently published cartoon in the New York Post shows just how effective having cartoons in a publication can be. However the complete lack of good judgement and knowledge of cultural sensitivity on the part of the cartoonist and his editors shows how destructive images can be to the fabric of a civil society. Many cartoonists throughout history have actually played a big part in revealing the true character of some truly vile characters in business and politics. Unfortunately they have also helped to reenforce terrible stereotypes of many ethnic minorities in this country. As a cartoonist I think one of the most important tools is knowledge...

Feb 24 ForeclosuresPosted by jbrenneman | 02/24/09
The bright side of the current crisis in the houseing market is an increase in affordable homes. It is heart breaking to hear some of the stories and to witness friends losing their homes either because of their own misjudgement or as a result of a corrupt mortgage system. We all have our own vision of the American dream. Some people however dream alot bigger than others and in many instances that is the reason for the mess the country now faces. We are told from childhood to dream big and on the surface this is a wonderful and neccessary bit of wisdom needed to inspire children to achieve great things...
