That time of year....

Posted by dlovell | 10/10/05

You know, I'm trying to pay a lot closer attention to baseball than politics these days.
Baseball's a lot more interesting. And usually a lot more fair. There's a lot less cheating in baseball -- corked bats, steroids and all. And in the end, the winner doesn't control my taxes.
Okay, that last one should be a reason why I SHOULD pay closer attention.
Anyway, I do read the paper. I watch the news. I know who the candidates are and what they stand for. I just hate following the rat race anymore.
But I will comment on one little piece of unpleasantness: Matt Driscoll's new campaign song, which has been airing on local radio. It's to the tune of Donna Summer's "She works hard for the money...

Okay...

I don't know how old he is, but I guess somewhere in his 80s. He's always done things the old-fashioned way. He trims grass along the fence with scissors.
A couple of years ago, I was inside, when I heard Walter yelling to me from his yard. I thought he was hurt. "Dahn-y-ell," he calls me, in very thick Ukrainian accent.
I rushed out the back door to find him at the fence with a bowl full of tomatoes. And a smile.
"You're a good neighbor," he said...
